In April of this year, Governor John Hickenlooper announced that $1 million in GOCO/Lottery funding would create 400 statewide outdoor jobs for youth and young adults through the 10 youth corps accredited by the CYCA. A vote by the GOCO board in June began leveraging $500,000 of those funds for local government and open space organizations' use on critical outdoor recreation and land conservation projects that would enhance Colorado’s trails, parks, open spaces and wildlife habitat. Additional projects are slated for 2012. The remaining $500,000 will be allocated equally for youth corps projects within Colorado State Parks and State Wildlife Areas.

The Western Colorado Conservation Corps received grants for 5 projects in and around Grand Junction & Crested Butte totalling over $56,000. The projects put 8-10 youth, aged 16-25 years old to work for 4 weeks on each project. In return, Crested Butte received a trail in Baxter Gulch which will be continued in 2012, Fruita & Grand Junction had a corridor of invasive tamarisk & Russian olive removed on the Colorado Riverfront Trail System, Grand Junction's West Lake Park upgraded to include a Disc Golf Course, fencing was installed at Matchett Park, and a trail was installed around Burkey Park. All of these projects were made possible by Great Outdoors Colorado and the Colorado Lottery, and as a thank you, the WCCC has joined with other CYCA Youth Corps in thanking GOCO:
